Racer at Kings Island is a classic wooden coaster that has entertained guests since the park’s opening in 1972. As one of the most iconic racing coasters in the world, it continues to deliver an enjoyable ride for both coaster enthusiasts and families alike. One of Racer’s strongest features is its airtime. The ride’s series of hills provide plenty of fun pops of airtime, especially in the back row. While it’s not the most intense wooden coaster, the ride still offers a nice mix of floater airtime throughout its layout. Another pleasant surprise is Racer’s smoothness. The ride is much smoother than other classic wooden coasters because of recent track work. While there are still a few bumps, it maintains a comfortable ride experience without being too rough. Overall, Racer is a fun and historic coaster that delivers solid airtime and a smooth ride for a wooden coaster of its age. It remains a must-ride at Kings Island and a great way to experience coaster history.

I was looking forward to this one because I really enjoyed Racer 75 at Kings Dominion and I heard this one was better, specifically in the airtime department. While I didn't find that to be the case, I still enjoyed it. Like the KD one, it is smooth and the racing aspect is fun. The KD one is my slight preference though, mainly due to the control modernization from Irvine Ondrey Engineering, where the impeccable programming from Brian Ondrey (of Dueling Dragons fame) uses the variable-speed lift hills to jog the trains into alignment on the hill to ensure an even start to each race. I got my 50th credit on this one. I had initially planned to get that on The Bat, but I accidentally rode that too early (ooh, shiny objects!), so I picked this classic instead.

Racer at Kings Island was surprisingly smooth. Neither side was hugely different from the other. This is a fun classic wooden coaster that is in good condition 50 years later.

It has 1 nice floater hill but the rest of the ride is slow, forceless and even is rough at points. I’m not sure how this side is so much worse than the other one but it is.

Overshadowed by adjacent rides, but is relevant in KIs lineup as an intermediate step between kiddie and hypercoasters. It's important that this scale of ride is available to offer a progression up the scale - and that it is fun in the process. Racer manages both requirements.

I rode this when they had the trains turn around backwards. I believe the right side was running backwards and the left side was normally. Forward it is just a nice, classic, John Allen goodness coaster. Decent speed, decent hints of air--overall a very decent coaster.
