In my opinion this is one of the stronger rides at Six Flags Magic Mountain. The first drop isn't mind blowing, but it's fun nevertheless. What continues is an extremely intense ride, with plenty of airtimes that catch one off guard. Not to mention the theming is amazing. I will admit it's a little rough and towards the end of the ride it feels a little dead, but the overall ride experience makes up for it.

Has this ride gotten worse? I remember being pleasantly surprised at the pace and enjoyment on this ride. It's intense for such a compact layout for sure. But after our ride yesterday I'm pretty sure my internal organs were all bruised. It's so rough. I used to think Viper was the more painful ride at Magic Mountain but after riding both on the same day Apocalypse is the undisputed king of body harm. We only rode it once so as to protect the future well being of my body, off to the dentist tomorrow to have the fillings in my teeth replaced.

The one and only wooden coaster Apocalypse at SFMM. Honestly, an underrated ride at this SoCal megapark. It has some great airtime moments, the first drop is great, and some crazy laterals. Not to even mention the theming! Six flags really went all out on this attraction, and man is it great. That being said, it does ride a bit bumpier than the average woodie, which is my main gripe. Also the second half it does lose a lot of steam and kinda crawls through those final turns. Even with some pacing issues and the questionable smoothness, this coaster fills an important gap in SFMM line up, and is still an exceptional coaster.

The speed is awesome along with the handchoppers. Unfortunately, I only got one ride towards the back. The first thing I noticed was that the seats are low and cushioned a lot. I’m not sure if this hinders the airtime, but I didn’t feel much of it. Like I didn’t get ANY airtime. Apocalypse seems to be a twister GCI so it’s probably built for speed than air. There is also a noticeable rattle but does not ruin the ride. There is also some really immersive and ominous theming in the queue, such as a bunch of evacuation alarms and some destroyed trucks. Overall a good ride. I would like to ride it in the front in the future; perhaps it’s better there.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is famous for its impressive lineup of 20 current roller coasters. Though, in those 20, only one wooden roller coaster stands: Apocalypse the Ride. Apocalypse is one of the older GCIs created and is one of their smaller thrill rides. Yet to say it doesn't pack a punch in its smaller stats is an understatement. From the moment the ride drops off the lift hill you are treated with many doses of intense laterals, disorienting turns and even some surprising pops of floater and ejector airtime. The ride seems to quickly take a turn or go over a hill every few seconds, with no time to breathe. That is, until the ride's finale. Apocalypse lets off a lot of speed to take two massive turns that don't do very much, resulting in somewhat of a disappointing end. The ride also has the GCI millennium flyer lap bars, which staple you as soon as the ride gains some positive G-forces. On a brighter note, the theming for this ride is very well done. The queue is very engaging with not just the ride itself but loads of theming sets that enhance the ride well. Overall, Apocalypse is a great wooden coaster that delivers a chaotic ride for the first 2/3 of the layout.

Apocalypse is probably the most overshadowed coaster at Magic Mountain. It doesn't get much attention in any direction. It's not hated on like Goliath, and it's not gushed over like X2 or Twisted Colossus. But this ride is fantastic, the ride has great airdrop, a fabulous first drop, and was just such a surprise to me with how good it was. The only complaint I have is with the discomfort, this ride is rough, and it does jackhammer quite a bit, but it really isn't bad enough to avoid the ride. If this ride got a retrack like Ghostrider did in 2016, I think people would see this ride for what it is and Apocalypse would see longer wait times.

I feel like this might be the first wooden coaster I’ve ridden that seems to be all about speed and just making you feel like the train is going way too fast for the track and it’s going to derail at any moment. It’s a wonderful wooden coaster and I wish there were more like it. It’s not going to give you airtime and lateral forces but it’s amazing with its intensity and being out of control.

After 2 rides in december, I can confidently place this as my #5, I hade a normal day ride in the back that had good airtime and laterals, however my second, night ride was ridiculous, it was hauling through its layout so fast it made the Millennium Flyer train jackhammer, it had excellent forces and pacing on that ride, which shot it up in my rankings a lot.

One of the best woodies that I’ve done. This is my first modern GCI, so I guess that’s why I love it so much. It’s just so disorienting. So much rapid airtime moments, rapid turns and it’s so well paced. It certainly has a shake, but that adds to the craziness if anything. The ending does lose a bit of steam, but it’s still a great ride. Also, that queue theming is really surprising.

This was my second GCI, and after the miserable Thunderhead experience I had summer of 19, I had high hopes for this to make up for it. It did not disappoint. It was a little bumpy in some elements but not notably, and ran much, much smoother than most woodies I've been on that aren't RMC toppers. I think I have a fairly high tolerance for roughness, but even the person I came with who hasn't had a ton of experience with coasters thought it was pretty smooth. Offers a very fast paced ride, almost no straight lines and lots of fun elements. Bonus points for theming, the queue looked pretty good (for a Six Flags park).

This is one of the faster woodies I’ve ever ridden, and the speed run through the station is a nice touch. It’s fast and fun, which makes for a good ride experience. The absolute worst part about this ride is the rattle and discomfort. Honestly, without those things this coaster would be considerably higher on my list. It’s painful to ride, sometimes worse than the Matterhorn at Disneyland. The speed coupled with the discomfort makes it worse, hitting harder on the turns than some other uncomfortable coasters. It’s still enjoyable if you can get past the jerkiness, but it needs some TLC.

This woodie has fallen off considerably over the years. I remember marathoning Apocalypse in the early 2010’s, as it was butter smooth with great pacing and airtime. However, over the last couple of years the roughness has been nearly unbearable. Occasionally I’ll get a smooth ride with solid airtime, but these days it isn’t worth a ride if the line is longer than 15-20mins.

With six flags magic mountain being my home amusement park, I’m use to riding this ride multiple times throughout the month. One thing I’ve learned over time is that while it provides great ejector and laterals, I can find the ride to be lacklustering being so short and having the constant rattle, especially at the turns. However, I still love this rides pacing and how comfortable the seats are.

Other than that there's some fun moments but nothing to write home about. 03-22-22 re-ride: Okay, just rode this again with a full train on a hot day and it was HAULING ass. Literally felt like we were going faster than Escape from Krypton (though I know that wasn't happening). I definitely have a newfound love for this coaster now that I've ridden it at it's peak performance. Put some lights in the effin' queue though.

I always seem to ride this when it needs re-tracking the most. I have never made it on Apocalypse after it has gotten a recent re-tracking, so that may be affecting my view on it. However, either way I still enjoy this ride. The layout is very fun and the pace is amazing as the train is always flying through each part of the layout. There are several small moments of airtime which are always welcome. I also love the seats as they are very cushioned, easing the rattle of this coaster. I have never been one to complain about wooden coasters rattling (That's what their supposed to do people! If you want something smooth go ride a steel coaster!), but when I rode this last it was a bit out of hand. I am looking forward to re-riding it after its most recent re-tracking, and I see it going up in my rankings possibly then.

Ride this one at night; it becomes a lot more fun when the indoor sections become near-blackout in the absence of the sun.
