I remember seeing sooperdooperLooper run in the 70s when it was brand new and a very big deal: the only vertical-loop coaster in the Eastern US, and one of the first modern loopers in the world. Of course, as a coaster-phobic kid, I was far too freaked out to ride on it. But it fascinated me. In 2011, I finally got on it. It's an interesting ride, unusual by modern standards: the loop happens right off the first drop, and it's pretty forceful, a classic Schwarzkopf-style loop. Then the coaster track knots through the loop (passing low over the Coal Cracker flume immediately afterward), then heads into a tunnel... and the rest of the ride is a mild terrain coaster, almost relaxing. It's as if the ride feels the need to give you a chance to recover from what you've just experienced. Modern riders can wonder what is so sooperdooper about this thing. But you have to understand that most riders in the 70s had never even seen such a thing before, or if they had, it was in pictures of horrifying jank machines from the early 20th century. This was probably the first time they had ever ridden one. Anyway, I was greatly pleased to finally experience the one that got away. It was also the first time I'd ever ridden an inversion with nothing but a lap restraint (much less common in 2011 than it is now), and I loved that.

This was my first looping coaster and now it is my daughters(5) first looping coaster. For an almost 50 year old ride it runs pretty smooth and has enough intensity that I never mind riding it. I think the layout of Hershey coasters are all great and improved by the fact that other coasters are in close proximity. Plus you have to love any coaster that rides through its own loop.

Among the Schwarzkopfs, this is probably the least exciting. It has a decent drop and an awesome loop but not much excitement after. However, this thing is super charming and has one of the best settings in the park. It’s intertwined with other rides like Great Bear, goes through trees and by a river. It’s not the most exciting but looks super nice and can be enjoyable after some rides on the beasts of the park.

I love Shwarzkopf coasters. They have wonderful trains and restraints. There is also something very special about the geometry of their loops that just make them more enjoyable than others. This ride however, it pains me a bit say, just doesn't quite deliver. The first part leading up to the loop is a bit tame as the slope degree on the decline is very mild. It takes a while to get up to speed to enter the loop. The loop itself was fine, nothing other worldly good or bad, but just fine. Then...well, that's about it. There really isn't much to say about anything and everything after the loop. It kind of just meanders around aimlessly. I don't think it breaks 25MPH anywhere after the loop. This ride is equal to Jaguar! from Knott's Berry farms with a loop in front of it. I was seriously surprised by the lack of excitement after the loop. It may have something to do with the terrain where it is built. Perhaps as this is one of their early loopers, they focused solely on the loop and didn't bother to put any more fun in? I don't know. It is still a classic Shwarzkopf that I hope remains running for many years to come, but this isn't the company's best work.

Sooperdooperlooper is a great entry into inversions if you’re getting into more intense rides. It’s a classic steel coaster that has some slow dead spots, but a complete circle loop and is in a great location. It’s not as intense as others in the park, but it’s more thrilling than Comet and Trailblazer

This is a good classic coaster and it was my first ride to ever go upside down so it holds a special place in my heart. The vertical look is fantastic no one makes a vertical loop like Schwarzkopf, but after that it doesn’t do a whole lot. The rest of the ride is a fun coaster thats still smooth and in such a cool spot. It might not do to much in todays market but it still holds its spot in the park and is worth a ride if the lines not long.

This old janky hunk of junk is actually pretty fun. For its age it's really smooth and arguably the best Schwarzkopf coaster out there. The chain lift is super sketchy in the way it like turns upward out of the station and uses a chain in the station instead of drive tires. But I assure you all it is a safe ride. That loop is actually so fun, no pain, just high g. great for the family and a nice first looper for kids.

Most of the benefits of this ride derive from the loop. The loop is insane, why is a loop this good on a family coaster. Sustained positives with a bit of float at the top. The rest of the ride is the reason it can have a 42 inch height requirement. It’s very mild. Some elements are pretty good for a family coaster, but after the loop, it does nothing. At least it’s aged well for a coaster this old, many people can still have a good time riding this as their first looping coaster, if they ignore the fact that the loop itself is insane.

I didn't care much for this one and thought it was going to be a bit more intense than I expected. The first loop was pretty cool but then after that, the entire pacing is very weird and off. It had a couple of dead spots and didn't seem to pick up much speed. But if you put my expectations aside, it's a fantastic starter for kids who want to get past the normal kiddie coasters. It would introduce an actual inversion to them and show a bit more speed to get them closer to the more thrilling rides. 2.5/5 stars

I can't remember the last time I rode the Sooperdooperlooper, but it was when I was young and looking for big, bold and high-intensity rides. It did not deliver on any of these elements...despite an outrageous degree of hype when this came out due to the loop, The Comet was always a far superior coaster. This ride never lived up to it's billing for me. If I can get my daughter on it and she enjoys it, there may be a chance for slight redemption.

Six Flags Great Adventures: Take note. This is how you keep you keep your coasters comfortable and relevant. Replace the trains when they become hot garbage. To be fair I’m sure these trains cost a lot less then replacing trains on kingda ka or el toro but doing so might return the rides to their former glory. SDL isn’t super special but a nice smooth coaster for when kids are starting to advance their coaster intensity that parents will still find pleasant

A solid loop and then not much else. However, since it's located in Hersheypark's Hollow, it gives great views of a bunch of different rides. You spend the whole time running under Great Bear and over Coal Cracker with a finish next to Comet and Skyrush. If you only like riding coasters this isn't a very good ride, but if you like looking at them this is one of the best in the park. 5/10 - this thing feels like it's going to break at the top of the lift hill

When I first got on this ride, I thought it would be rough and boring. However, this ride is actually butter smooth and has a fun loop with a fun setting. SooperDooperLooper isn't my favorite coaster, as it does meander a bit, however, it's still a very fun ride that will pleasantly surprise you.
