Space Mountain. Probably the first ride that would come to someone’s head if you told them to name a roller coaster. Maybe the most classic ride at Magic Kingdom. The space theming is still great, as they’ve updated the queue inside and those astronauts and rovers on the ceiling while going up the lift still hold up. The coaster twists and turns in the darkness and has many sudden drops that you don’t expect. It has been very rattly and not the most comfortable after all these years. The old fast pass one is a bit different from the standard line one, but this is as classic of a coaster as you’ll get.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is one of the most themed mine train family rides you’ll ride. It is quite similar to the Seven Dwarves Mine Train, but is loosely Western themed to the Arizona cliffs. The trains are literally train themed and the ride is smooth, comfortable, twisty, and windy. This is the quintessential family coaster, however, it is very forceless and low in intensity. It has been closed for multiple years at times for renovations and improvements. A classic at Magic Kingdom nonetheless.

Primeval Whirl was a zany wild mouse layout at the next level, with a car that spins as you hit tight turns and dips. It was themed to the extinction of dinosaurs with storyboards and was very noisy but in a goofy carnival-like way. There were two layouts side by side with one another making opposite turns from one another. This ride was mellower than some of the others here and is a step up from your average wild mouse.

Expedition Everest is a magnum opus of theming and what a park should strive to have a rollercoaster be. You see a mountain resembling Mt Everest in the background looming over the rest of Animal Kingdom. The station is themed like a base camp in Nepal with parkas, supplies, and other decor. The ride takes you on a journey to find the Yeti and you get to ascend to the peak only to discover the tracks are torn apart. You then suddenly lurch backwards down into the dark mountain before coming face to face with the Yeti itself. There used to be an actual animatronic of it before the final drop, but it had some issues they never fixed. Nevertheless, this mine train adventure pulls out all the stops when it comes to being a quality ride.

The Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster is a classic indoor Vekoma launched looper that has fantastic theming both outside and inside the ride. There’s a giant guitar and an upside down car with music notes at the entrance and there’s a preshow with the rock band Aerosmith. You’re running late for a concert and have to speed down Hollywood Blvd to get there. You have no idea when the launch happens and the glow in the dark billboards and signs all add to the experience while looping, corkscrewing, and turning. Apparently, there’s 5 unique Aerosmith mashups that play while riding which makes each ride different. I hear it’s pretty rattly recently but is still a fun time.

Journey to Atlantis would not be classified as a coaster, however, it features a really unique boat that doubles as a roller coaster at the end. It plays out like a themed shoot the chutes type ride similar to that of Splash Mountain with a mythological story. It meanders indoors before ascending a lift hill and a bit outside where there’s a big drop before ascending another lift hill back indoors. The fast banked turns at the end are incredibly fun in the dark and the splash out at the end is a great ending to a lengthy ride.

Kraken is a reliable and rather smooth floorless coaster with good theming and a color resembling what the kraken looks like. The first drop into the dive loop is great for floater airtime and the layout is solid all around twisting and turning like tentacles! The location over the water is a nice setting during drops as well. The dive under the station is intense and the line isn’t that bad from prior experiences. Doesn’t do anything spectacular, but never disappoints!

Manta is an excellently themed flyer with cars that resemble manta rays and a bright blue track with gorgeous landscape. The water elements add to the class of the ride. The pretzel knot is intense and forceful and it truly feels like you’re a ray. I will say there could’ve been more inversions and intense parts towards the back half rather than gliding about, but still a quality ride!

Dragon Challenge - Hungarian Horntail was one of two dueling BM inverts that was themed to the dragons from Harry Potter and featured a themed queue to that of a lair. The Horntail one was a bit slower than the Fireball one but had better inversions in my opinion. The pacing was intense and the inversions featured a near miss double loop when dueling, zero g rolls, Immelmanns, and corkscrews. The ride was smooth and not uncomfortable and you can tell this was well maintained by the park

Dragon Challenge - Chinese Fireball was one of two dueling BM inverts that was themed after the dragons in Harry Potter. The queue was cave themed and the ride was intense and had great pacing. I felt like the Fireball side was a bit faster than the Horntail side and it features a near miss double loop and barrel rolls, Immelmanns, and other inversions. The ride was smooth and not uncomfortable which adds to why this was such a quality ride

Revenge of the Mummy is one of the better rides at Universal Studios Florida. It is a highly themed indoor dark coaster that connects to The Mummy trilogy and features pyrotechnics, screens, mechanical effects, sudden drops and launches, and even a hilarious fake ride ending near the end which further elevates it from other indoor coasters. The launch is startling, and the ride includes a backwards section as well which is pretty intense in the dark. The park has taken care of this ride over the years and it shows. Give Brendan his coffee!

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts is not your typical roller coaster. I wouldn’t exactly call it a coaster: as it’s more like a dark ride with screens that has roller coaster elements. I will say that some of the sudden drops and turns sync well with what’s happening on the screens whether we’re on a minecart trying to escape from goblins or fighting a huge dragon. It immerses you in a story and it’s tough to rate this when comparing it to your conventional coaster. It doesn’t have a lift hill or launches but is still an entertaining experience nonetheless.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is a compact and unique ride experience that lets you choose your own music track to listen to as you complete the layout. You used to have over 30 different songs to choose from ranging from rock to pop to rap however I hear they’ve limited it to 3-5. The lift hill goes straight up as you go through the rings and hit that first drop into the classic dive loop. The layout is very unique as it even goes through one of the buildings! The brake section does slow it down a bit on the back half but the turns and twists are still fun. The setting next to the stage with palm trees makes this better too.

Flashback is one of many Boomerang clones throughout the country that has been at the park for a while. It’s a good reliable option when other rides at the park have big waits. You get the classic rattle and headbanging of a boomerang and when I was in the front, my legs barely had enough room so I had to squeeze them in. I still had a fun ride on this regardless because of the forces of the 2 inversions going through them forwards and backwards.

The Joker at SFNE is amongst many Joker clones throughout the Six Flags chains that offers 4D spinning mechanics across a very smooth, but short track. You can choose to either sit facing towards the lift or away from the lift and also have the option to wait in line for the right wing or left wing. What I like about these are that every ride is different and unique and you will never have the same ride twice. The inversions and twists are intense, but it has low capacity and a very short ride time not to mention you having to wait a while once you get to the bottom. I will also say the one at SFGrA spins more. Fun to lap when you can.

Batman: The Dark Knight is a great stepping stone coaster to some more intense floorless coasters. They run 2-3 trains and it has great capacity. This coaster is very smooth for being over 20 years old and the ride is quite comfortable. The inversions feature a loop, corkscrews, and a roll or two. The ride is not as intense or forceful and is quite short, but the pacing and smoothness make up well for it.

Superman: The Ride is one of the flagship attractions at SFNE and for good reason: its location next to the CT river is beautiful, its first drop is intense and goes into a tunnel, its theming is solid, having on board audio of Superman’s theme and cutouts of buildings you weave through, and has a great layout of some camelbacks and dive turns that weave in and out of each other in the 2nd half. My gripes are the uncomfortable lap bars that ops tend to staple you to which I heard are for safety reasons because there used to be T-bars. I have also been on it when it was running slower than normal which can sometimes happen. Regardless, a thrilling ride that’s one of the best!

Wicked Cyclone is an RMC recreation of the old wooden Cyclone coaster that is one of the best rides you’ll have at a park. It is loosely themed to storm chasers and has a great twisting layout that delivers banked turns, stalls, outward hills, and a steep and thrilling first drop that dictates the pace of the entire ride. It is relentless from start to finish with many hills ejecting you from your seat. I recommend riding in the front and back seats to get the best experiences. The lap bar is all that’s needed. This ride is deserving of its praise!

Alpengeist is an intense suspended coaster with great pacing and inversions located in the Germany section. It is winter themed and the station is like that of a ski hut. The loops, twists, rolls and other features make this a great re-ride, especially because it doesn’t get that crowded. The train really keeps its pace from start to finish. A complaint I have is that the cars are very close together and you can’t see anything unless you get in the front row.

Apollo’s Chariot is an excellent out and back hyper coaster that delivers great floater ejections among its many fun camelbacks. Located in the Italy section of the park, the ride is very long and narrow and provides great views of rivers and trees in the VA countryside. The trains have large capacities and the smooth pacing of the ride is great. My only gripe is that the lift hill is very slow and there could be more elements than camelbacks. Overall a solid ride.

Griffon is a BM dive coaster that is one of, if not, the best one in the country. It is located in the France section of the park and the views you get from the top of the lift hill are breathtaking. It has 3 trains of 10 across, so capacity is great. The hangtime and suspense you get before entering the 90 degree drop is intimidating and the inversions are still very smooth. The glide across the water with the jets spraying at the end is a chefs kiss on top of one of the best rides in the park.

The Loch Ness Monster is a classic and incredibly unique steel coaster that is in a beautiful location over the river in the Scotland section of the park. It has a long ride time partially due to pacing and some slow spots during the journey. What makes this ride stand out is its interlocking loops over the river that you go through twice. It also features an incredibly long tunnel on a full helix which makes the layout unique and fun.

Wild Mouse is your typical wild mouse clone with hairpin turns, and dips as you get lower to the ground. There is a bit of discomfort on the turns and rattling too but it makes sense for this ride being as old as it is. It is in a good location to get some views of the park and isn’t special or terrible

The Thunder side of Lightning Racer is typically a bit slower than the Lightning side when dueling. This is a great dueling woodie coaster than has good airtime hills and turns and is located at the back of the park. The capacity is great because they usually run 2 trains on both which results in this ride having minimal lines. The layout is fun and pretty long too which makes this a solid ride.

The Lightning side on Lightning Racer typically has a bit of a head start compared to Thunder meaning it crosses the finish line first. This is one half of a dueling wooden coaster located at the back of the park. The trains are quite long and I believe they run 2 of each which means the lines are never usually long for this. I don’t know if they still duel, but the last time I rode this it did. The turns and hills give nice airtime moments and the layout is decently long too.

Trailblazer is a Western-themed mine train coaster that is very mellow and tame, making it an excellent family option. I like how this one twists and turns through the trees and has a lot of helixes and give you some centrifugal forces. It is maintained well, but obviously has slow spots. This is your average run of the mill mine train at the end of the day

I rode this ride before they re-themed it and it was known as Sidewinder. It used to be black and is now painted green and themed to Jolly Ranchers. It was one of my first boomerangs and is in a great location towards the center left of the park. The restraints aren’t bad and the inversions are fun as always. The park seems to take good care of it. You get some rattling and headbanging on the inversions like most clones, but a good overall ride

Laff Trakk is a souped up version of a Wild Mouse which seats 4 people: 2 facing forwards and 2 facing backwards. It’s located indoors which makes it a great option if it’s rainy out. It is a dark mouse with glow in the dark theming to make it look like a circus and it does this really well. It is quite intense for an indoor ride because the cars spin around on the tracks and there’s lots of high banked turns which elevate this. The capacity of 4 per car can be an issue leading to long lines and this ride does tend to break down.
