The Coney Island Cyclone is one of the most legendary wooden coasters in the world, and for good reason. Since opening in 1927, this classic ride has thrilled generations with its intense drops, wild layout, and historic charm. Above all, the Cyclone is just a fun ride. Its compact, twisting layout keeps riders on their toes, and the ride’s aggressive pacing makes every turn and drop exciting. Despite its age, it still delivers a thrilling experience that stands out among wooden coasters. Another major highlight of the Cyclone is its airtime. The ride features several strong pops of airtime, especially on the smaller hills and its notorious first drop. Sitting in the back row offers some of the most intense moments, with riders getting yanked over the hills in classic wooden coaster fashion. While the ride can be rough in some spots, its history, airtime, and overall excitement make it a must-ride for anybody. It may not be the smoothest coaster, but the experience is unforgettable.

Cyclone est une icone. Il est posé sur la plage face à l'Atlantique de son bois blanc qui a vu passer de nombreuses générations. Tout à un charme particulier chez lui, autant dans ses alentours, que son aura très américaine. Il ne paye pas de mine au premier abord mais une fois installé dans les sièges très vintage et confortable, on comprend tout le sens de la machine. Après que l'opérateur nous ai libéré le train part sur son lift à l'odeur de fioul. Une fois au sommet, le train part et ne s'arrête jamais ! Je ne sais pas à quel point j'ai rigolé et je me suis fait trimballé dans mon wagon, de haut en bas, de droite à gauche. On fonce, on ne s'arrête pas et c'est assez incroyable de ressentir ce genre de sensations aussi intenses à son grand âge ! La seconde partie est tout aussi fourbe et remplie de floatings très agréables. Au retour en gare, tout le monde applaudi comme pour remercier à la machine de continuer de nous faire dévaler ses pentes. Mention +++ au gars qui s'occupait des sacs, un énorme sourire et rempli de bons conseils (même ça ne doit pas toujours être le même je voulais le noter quelque part haha)

Definitely recommend sitting as far back as you can. If you like laterals, sit by yourself to get thrown from side to side at every turn. An unpredictable, wild, absolutely classic ride.

Un wooden très surprenant malgré son âge, avec de vrais airtimes, une bonne first drop et très peu de vibrations pour un wooden, le seul problème sont les tournant trop brusques. A faire pour l'histoire, et l'expérience de faire un coaster aussi vétuste (lap bar commune pour les 2 personnes, fermeture des bars manuelles ?? départ du train manuelle ??)

Aside from the historical value, this really is a great ride. Iconic, airtime filled, and has the "seen better days but is as dignified as ever" feel. Goes back to the glory days of Coney Island in a way only the Wonder Wheel comes close to doing. On top of that, this is truly an elite wooden coaster to this day.

If you find yourself getting a good ride on this thing, quite while you're ahead. I thought it was alright after riding it near the middle, so I rode it near the back and it is the worst and most overrated coaster I've ever experienced. If they burned it down tomorrow I would laugh. The worst part of this ride by far is the trains. For some reason, I've never heard anyone mention this before, but apparently people in the olden days were never taller than 5ft 8.

Cyclone is everything you hope and expect it to be. It’s utterly classic and old school with the huge floor lever brakes and weird old trains with lots of extra padding. The ride itself I was afraid of getting beaten up but actually found it to be quite tame except for a couple quick lateral turns that threw me sideways in my seat. It’s really a fun ride that anyone can enjoy. My one complaint is with the terrible ride ops. There’s no seat or rows marked so it’s chaos trying to get a seat and that’s completely unnecessary. Also the ops just keep packing people into the station to the point they are spilling out onto the track. I kept having people cutting in front of me so I had to wait several extra trains to get a seat.

Un wooden centenaire mais très bien entretenu ! Les descentes sont plus inclinées que je ne le pensais et il ne vibre presque pas ! De plus les assises et la lap bar sont rembourrées, ce qui fait qu'on se trouve presque sur un canapé à roulettes. Les virages ne sont pas inclinés donc accrochez vous si vous ne voulez pas traverser le wagon !

This ride has a great mix of laterals and ejector, while also being such a classic ride. The first half pins you to the side of your seat with so much force it’s insane. The second half features a fea airtime moments that give incredible ejector. And it has that amazing rumble that make old woodies great. Still can’t believe this ride was made almost 100 years ago.

Quel bon coaster pour son âge! Que ca fait plaisir d'avoir cette machine qui sauve le parc! Les latéraux sur les demi tours sont vraiment fun et les descentes et bosses sont franchement innovantes pour l'époque ! A faire et à refaire sans hésitation !

Rode in row 8. This has good forces all over. Laterals strong on the turnarounds, enough to throw you into your fellow rider, but not quite as nuts as Kennywood’s Thunderbolt. That may be for the better, though. There is a good amount of violence in some of the transitions, often in the form of the drop suddenly steepening, tossing you out of your seat. It’s not quite Jack Rabbit or Phoenix in terms of standing air, but it’s much closer than I thought it would be. And there are plenty of good moments of airtime. They are not sustained over hills, and since I was towards the back the airtime only kicked in when I was getting yanked down the hills. But again, it was strong, and basically standing. It was a good long ride, and it had a few moments of moderate roughness, but it was not ever painful.

I don't think I got the best ride on this coaster when I rode Cyclone, and it did not impress me as much as I though it would. The first annoying things is that it cost $10 for one ride on top of the "all-access" wristband for the rest of the rides at Luna Park. Obviously this has nothing to do with the ride experience, but it soured my mood a little before getting on. The first thing that I noticed was that the seats were extremely comfortable. There is thick cushioning on all parts of the seat, which soak up 90% of the rattle from the ride. The ride experience was objectively just ok. The airtime was mediocre at best, and the intensity did not live up to the hype. This definitely has massive historical value, which is why you would want to get on this ride, but don't expect a top tier woodie.

On the day I visited I only managed to get on rows 1 and 2, so I probably missed out on a lot of the renowned ejector airtime, but it is still an absolute masterpiece 92 years on.

The Coney Island Cyclone is surprisingly one of my favorite wood coasters! To start, the seats are extremely comfortable, feeling like a couch, and the lap bars leave a lot of room for some quality airtime. The first drop is the best element in the ride, especially near the back of the train. Despite being 92 years old, it is amazingly smooth, and I only started to get a bit of a headache after 9 rides. Marathoning is not and issue here. There are extreme lateral g's on the shallowly banked turns, and there is some great floater/ejector airtime on some of the hills. While not as intense as other woodies like El Toro, it provides an excellent ride, especially for its age. DO NOT sit on a wheel seat, as it will be a rougher experience, excluding the front row. The best rides can be found near the back.

Je trouve ça encore étonnant qu'un grand huit en bois de cet âge puisse être bien meilleur que d'autres beaucoup plus récents. Le parcours, malgré la taille relativement petite du coaster, semble très long et est bien garni en airtimes (notamment sur la first drop). Le confort est irréprochable et les trains sont des véritables fauteuils sur roues (même si il faut déjà trouver comment monter dedans). Bien entendu, ça n'a rien à voir avec El Toro, mais ça reste un classique de très grande qualité!
