Its funny how much opinions can change! when i first rode this ride, it was really not as good as I expected. This time, it was amazing!! This is probably my new favorite inverted coaster.

    Inversions Intensity Smoothness Too short

A very good B&M Invert and one of the best coasters at Carowinds. I love inverts and Afterburn is no exception. I don't think it's one of the best but it for sure packs a punch. It's a shorter ride that is a lot of positives at once. I prefer most other inverts mainly because of the length. Afterburn is definitely one of the more forceful inverts out there but it always seems like there is at least one or two inverts better at most things. Banshee and Montu both have longer layouts. Montu, Raptor, and Alpengeist are slightly more intense. Talon and Raptor have a compact punchy layout that is just as intense. Great Bear is much more whippy. Afterburn does everything good but not as good as the others.

    Inversions Pace Intensity Too short

A great invert that is packed full of great elements and intensity. The back row is seriously no joke. The only gripe I have is that it is a little short. Maybe just add another element or two and it has potential to be the best B&M invert.

Love the theme. Now, to grade an invert...intensity is solid, the size makes it nice and compact in places but not too compact like Batman. Carries the speed really well and the ride sprawls out over its park location nicely. First drop is good and inversions feel appropriately whippy. The loop was pretty tight, and the rolls were smooth and fast. No head banging, no discomfort even though you get that typical invert bonkerz level intensity. Prefer the front on inverts but the back on this thing was really good as well.

    Inversions Masterpiece Intensity Too short

Afterburn is one of the best inverted coasters out there. Wow is a good word for the intensity and strong layout this ride has. Many b&m coasters seem like they could have had better layouts, but the inverts dont seem to suffer that issue and afterburn is no exception. I love this ride and i can not wait to get back on it!!!!

I love a good B&M invert and this one did not disappoint. The intense positive G's on this bad boy are real. I feel the need, the need for speed, and that need was satisfied. As my body was flung around like a rag doll I was giddy enough to scream "Great balls of fire!" You don't have time to think up there, If you think, you're dead. The whippy and heaviness of the ride had me screaming "Let's turn and burn!" to my fellow co-riders. By the end of the ride all of my blood was in my feet. Also the station soundtrack was great.

    Pace Intensity Smoothness Too short

Afterburn is an incredible ride. It maintains great intensity from start to finish. There is no rattle to be seen on Afterburn. Everything Afterburn does is outstanding. The problem lies in what it doesn't do. Afterburn ends far too soon. It has a ton of energy ready to be unleashed, and bam, you're done. The inversions are great, particularly the batwing. It's constantly diving in and out of trenches. All in all, a great inverted coaster.

    Inversions Intensity Layout

Fantastic B&M Invert that has the layout that really lets the inverted coaster stand above most of the competition. Each element comes right after the last, making for a very eventful ride as you haul through the trenches and trees that the track resides in. Though this is one of the longer B&M inverts I still just wanted more after the train hit the final brakes, definitely one of the best B&M Inverts I've ridden.

Action-packed B&M Invert! The compact layout flows extremely well, as each inversion leads effortlessly into the next one. The Batwing in particular delivers an exciting surge of positive Gs!

Smooth and intense, Afterburn is such an amazing invert and is easily the most intense ride at Carowinds.

    Inversions Fun Intensity

The Immelmann is a fun twist on the invert formula, but the rest of the ride lacked the pizazz I wanted from it.

    Inversions Pace Intensity

Afterburn is a perfect example of an outstanding B&M invert. It's perfectly paced without any dead spots. It has a loop, an immelmann, a zero-g roll, and a best of all, a batwing. The flat spin and a forceful final helix is a great finale to a fast paced ride that left me dizzy each time. My favorite invert in the US.

    Capacity Intensity Intensity

Quite intense B&M inverter - which, like all others of its kind, has only four good seats in the whole train. No airtime.
