Capacity Inversions Intensity Rattle Headbanging

PortAventura's historic ride and the ex-7 year world record holder for the most inversions on any rollercoaster! Dragon Khan is a very fun & aesthetically pretty ride with fantastic operations & definitely one of the 'great fours' at PortAventura World. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on your taste, this 28-year-old rollercoaster now packs quite an intense punch that will leave you KO'd once you're done. Get ready to get WHOOPED from inversion to inversion, and have your head spinning at the end. Try not to do this ride multiple times in a row or right after eating, instead do that with the mythical Shambhala. I had originally rated this 4 stars last year, but I will be reducing to 3.5 stars because of the rattle that's becoming more & more present, either on the inside or outside seats. Overall however, it's still a ride packed with fun elements & an extreme source of intensity. Definitely don't skip this one, it's a classic!

Layout Headbanging Harness Discomfort

This could be a good ride if you change the restraints to a lap bar. In the current state I will never ride this coaster again, because in every inversion your head bangs to the restraint so that I had red ears after the ride. And luckily I had a middle seat in row 2.

Inversions Pace Smoothness Headbanging Harness

It is in general decent ride but the restraints ruin it for me. The headbanging you receive is very annoying and the seats are so close to each other that you end up with your neighbour's elbow in your arm. PortAventura should invest some money and switch the restraints to lap bars.

Location Masterpiece Intensity

If any roller coaster classified as a work of art, Dragon Khan is the one. 25 years ago, 5 year old me faced this roller coaster from the Chinese wall promenade, coming from the Western themed area. I was too small to ride it, but the sight of it changed the trajectory of my life forever. Today I returned with high expectations, and Dragon Khan far exceeded them. A beauty to behold from every angle. The ride is fierce, the vertical loops have a surprising amount of force, and there are next to no dead spots. With Shambhala right next to it, it might be a contrarian opinion to like Dragon Khan the most, but in my opinion its intensity is unmatched by any other steel non-launch coaster in Europe I've experienced so far. I'm bumping down most of my previous 5 star ratings to 4.5 to put Dragon Khan with the elites; it's well deserved. A true masterpiece.

First Drop Inversions Harness

The first drop was surprisingly intense considering it's not the tallest. Apart from that it's a pretty tame ride with fun inversions.

First Drop Inversions Dead spots

Very average ride. I find it funny how an inversion based rollercoasters best element was the first drop. Inversions are alright, the cobra roll and corkscrews are the most notable inversions. It’s not bad by any means but it’s not too thrilling either.

First Drop Inversions Intensity Rattle Discomfort

I only rode this twice on the front, so I can’t comment on the rattle further back, but this is a quite intense and impressive ride. Some great, fast inversions and build up of speed all the way round. Could have been a 9, but it gave me an awful headache second time round (probably due to the intensity)! Hard to repeat ride.

Inversions Rattle Harness Disappointing!

I've heard so much good opinions about this coaster, but honestly it sucks... Only good thing about it is number of inversions, but discomfort at this coaster kills all posibble fun. I'm never raiding this again...

It's so intense, but what surprised me was how huge it was, probably because it's right next to shambhala which overshadows it.

Inversions Fun Layout Harness

Despite its age it still runs so well for nowadays standards. Especially compared to the newer B&M Shambhala. Plenty of inversions make this coaster so unique. I went to this coaster everytime I started my day during my stay. Shoulder restraints not my favourite. However at thise tines that was considered normal. Wish they would replace the train and gave the track a paint job.

Pace Intensity Layout Rattle

I went in expecting an uncomfortable rough ride experience but was surprised! The drop gives good floater depending where you sit, intense long layout and an underrated zero g roll! This B&M coaster may be old but it still seems to pack a very nice punch. Yes it does have the B&M rattle but I didn't really mind it only a bit of headbanging! Very underrated classic that is overshadowed by the hyper coaster nearby (yes I am looking at you Shambhala).

Inversions Location

I didn't think it was rattly or uncomfortable at all, contrary to popular believe, and even though it might not be the smoothest coaster out there, it's quite liveable. Although the OTSR didn't offer much freedom, as typical, the trains were quite comfy, providing plenty of leg room - something I value a lot. However, it doesn't live up to other B&M loopers which are a bit more modern, such as Superman: La atracción de acero. The drop was disappointing (yet I understand it was a good one at it's time) and it was overall worse. Nonetheless, it featured some intense elements, outstanding the insane zero-g-roll with its crazy whip. Perhaps it also lacks some airtime, but considering it is located just under that massive airtime machine, I'll look past it. The color scheme is beautiful, and the location by Shambhala is really impressive. Being able to wander under the structure and hear the deafening sound of the coaster is an invaluable experience. A nice, classic coaster worth riding.

First Drop Fun Intensity Headbanging

It’s a great coaster. Great layout and has perfect amount of inversions in my opinion. Great duration and definitely a must do in the park. Could be a little less rough.

Inversions Intensity Rattle

Its an intense ride, full of many inversions that make you lose your sense of space in everyway possible. It is constantly throwing you around. While it does have a small rattle, it didn't seem to effect me too much, not as good as shambala but still worthy of a classic

Inversions Rattle Harness Disappointing!

I expected this coaster to be mediocre at best, but in fact, it was pretty disappointing: it looks really nice and impressing (besides of the god-awful color scheme of the trains), but the layout is very monotous: inversion after inversion, mixed with heavy positive G's - which quickly gets old. That alone might not sound too bad, but this coaster has a really nasty, headache-inducing rattle which, especially in combination with the bulky restraint, completely ruins the experience. Riding in the inner seats might help a little, but is still not a pleasant experience.

Inversions Pace Intensity

Dragon Khan absolutely blew me away. I expected it to be a rough, boring sitdown that I would ride once or twice but not really remember. But I was wrong. This ride is so intense from start to finish. Every inversion packs a huge punch, especially that insanely whippy zero-g roll that I would put up there with some of the best inversions I’ve experienced. The reason why it’s not 5 stars is that it doesn’t really vary its sensations, it’s just a constant barrage of intensity. Still, Dragon Khan is a fantastic ride and an underrated gem.

Fun Duration

Great coaster with many inversions and pretty smooth, a bit of vibration but for a 25 yo boy, it’s quite acceptable

Great fun to go on once or twice. After a few rides though, it can get really boring. Plus, once the seatbelt that was supposed to secure my shoulder restraints fell out. Absolutely terrifying!

Fun Masterpiece Intensity Layout

I guess I will have to accept his ride for what it is. When I first rode last year I expected better but maybe I set my expectations too high but the intensity of it was very good and the zero g roll was brilliant as well it was also super fun going through many inversions, It was super fun shouting whilst we went through some fun inversions, some of the most fun I’ve had on a rollercoaster. but the layout isn’t the strongest. I think that shockwave at Drayton manor is inferior to it. It’s unfortunate that I only rode it twice because the 2nd ride was really good but the 1st was just decent. I think maybe new trains and a new theme in the area would make this ride look much nicer and more appealing. It is a John Wardley masterpiece I also remember seeing it for the first time and thinking “oh my god that looks insane” and we watched it go around it’s glossy track.

First Drop Fun Headbanging Dead spots Intensity

Dragon Khan is fun. The First Drop gives great floater all the way down, but the ride lacked positive force, where you know that's what it's designed to do. It had some notions of this on my last night ride, but my day rides, the positive force was very much lacking. The Cobra Roll and Corkscrews are the places where this ride's rattle shows very aggressively, but luckily is isn't strong in the rest of the layout. The mid course essentially stops the train in it's pace, essentially ruining the second half. All this said, there is 1 element of this ride which is absolutely slaps... the 0 G Roll, I'd hardly call it 0 G, it's more like a moment of such aggressive intensity it frankly left me gobsmacked. It's the only reason with ride doesn't rank lower for me.

Comfort Intensity Layout Rattle

I rode it in 2005 when it was the only "worthy" coaster in the park. A very goodmemory and I look forward toriding it again soon.

Duration Disappointing!

This ride has had its time. It is still fairly smooth, sits firmly in the most impressive coaster skyline in a European park and features good duration. But pacing-wise it is just not an exciting ride anymore. You really feel that it's just element after element with inconsistent speeds throughout the ride. Also it is very intense, but in a nauseating way. I always went of feeling slightly dizzy in the head in a way I had never felt before. For a ride of this magnitude, the ride experience is indeed kind of average.

Inversions Fun Layout Rattle Discomfort

Very nice coaster, which gave me a lot of fun. Great classic inversions from B&M! A little con, that people sit very close to each other, and it's impossible for two persons ride with arms above the head. Maybe also a little rattle.

Location Intensity Duration

This ride is fantastic. It's very forceful and very smooth, I got zero headbanging. It just keeps on going, it's really long and I like that! The location is amazing, you have a beautiful view of the sea on the lift. One small con was the capacity on my visit. It was running only one train so it had a 3 hour queue... Not the coaster's fault, this is just the park milking the money out of the fast passes.

Dragon Khan has unfortunately, seen better days. It is exhibiting signs of high mileage, rattles, bangs and, by B&M standards the trains are not tracking nearly as well as they could be. It's intensity is high, as with most of the early B&M's, and still a good ride, but in present condition not the excellent one that it could and should be. Would be an easy 5 star if better looked after.

Capacity Headbanging

This is a little bit overrated. There was a time where the parks always tried to get the roller coaster with the most inversions and the result was a lot of mediocre rides which feel more like a flatride than a coaster. And Dragon Khan is no exception - with a little bit more airtime and less inversions this ride could have been a good one. The bulky B&M restraints are horrible.
