Ive just learned that this was once the tallest&fastest roller coaster back in 1978,after a horrible day at SFOT,I ended up riding this thing in the very front( I rode this by myself which I am not a fan of I greatly enjoyed this and I miss this ride very much,this is one of the rides that you need to ride lots of times to appreciate it. This was also my very first looping roller coaster and I thought I was gonna fall out until I realized you didn’t actually need a lap bar to hold you in during the loops because the 5.9 gs press you into your seat. However,This Ride must have one of the least appealing entrances I've ever seen,it really looks like it had been brought off of Ebay 21 years ago, The stuff around the ride(not the actual ride)needs some work ASAP Update,I rode this again on July 1st,2025,I had a completely different experience than last year,I got 2 rides on the back row,which is known for having some crazy ejector airtime and it lives up to the hype, The neglected days of this ride are over and I always look forward to riding this.

This was a pretty cool relic from the coaster's past, given that it's almost 50 years old now. It IS wild how slow the lift hill is and how slowly you exit the hill. The highlight really is the double loops. They are intense. I enjoyed this ride, but aside from the loops, the rest didn't really do much for me. And wow, this thing is kinda rickety! The second drop after the loops sways like crazy after a train goes down it. They have guy wires on it to help stabilize it.

It was very intense and surprisingly smooth! The chain lift was a bit slow, but once the actual ride started, it was intense the entire way through. You start with a couple of loops that give very intense forces. The pacing stays solid throughout the ride and transitions into some ejector spots. For its age, this is one of the better coasters in the park and I had to ride it multiple times. 4/5 stars

Shockwave is extremely underrated, even by its fans. The drop has a powerful jolt of ejector that no one talks about. Then the loops are a hard greyout every time. The turns are kept interesting by weird lateral kinks during them. Then the 2 drops off the turnarounds and the ending triangle hill have some of the most violent ejector I have ever felt. People always rant about how strong magnum's triangle hills are but I honestly found the one on shockwave to be 5 times as strong it was ridiculous. There is also this great sustained ejector moment after the 2nd turnaround drop. All of this wild ejector is made even crazier by the lap bars that allow for plenty of room, meaning you will be launched out of your seat and get amazing standing airtime. I also just love how this ride sort of looks like a carnival coaster that's falling apart, I don't know why but it just makes me laugh and adds to the ride. The only slight problem I have with this ride is that it sort of feels slow but everything else is done perfectly, especially for the time it was built. Overall Shockwave has some of the most extreme forces in both the positive and negative direction which is why it finds a spot inside my top 20.

Didn't love Shockwave. It has some good forces and the double inversion combo is solid...but it's a distant #4 at the park. Did get to meet Robb and Elissa from Theme Park Review and they took my daughter on a ride that had the full video treatment - made my daughter's day. A very cool thing to see her experience.

Shock Wave is an underrated rollercoaster at SFOT. It’s 116 feet tall has 2 inversions and has a top speed of 62MPH. This ride has lap bar and seatbelt restraints. Once at the top of the lift hill you round this 180 degree turn. It’s not too crazy but you might get mild force and whip in the back. Then there’s an ascent which I think reduced the airtime on the first drop but the first drop still gives good floater airtime in the back. What’s cool about it is that you are racing cars. Then the 2 back to back vertical loops are fantastic. They are very forceful and always cause me to grey out. It really helped because they were back to back. The ascent after that might give a pop of airtime. Then the 2 drops on the turnarounds have some powerful ejector airtime if you’re in the back seat. Heck even the front gets some floater airtime. It’s really weird because the drops aren’t steep at all. The reason they have so much airtime is probably because of the speed you enter it with. And the coaster may wobble a little bit but it didn’t impact the ride experience for me. I have a video of it wobbling on my YouTube channel Mr. Pro Bro. Then the 2 bunny hills after the turnarounds have good pops of ejector airtime. The 270 degree helix isn’t too crazy but it may have decent forces in the back. This ride is always a ride I try to ride at SFOT when I go there. The downside is that there are a couple dead spots. The 180 turns aren’t too thrilling but the 2 after the loops at least cause intense ejector airtime. I rate this coaster an 8.5 out of 10.

While I've heard so much about good those back to back loops are, I was definitely surprised by the gnarly ejector this thing gives you. This ride is absolutely nuts, hard to believe it opened only 2 years after Revolution! Definitely top 3 in the park, and definitely earned a place on my favorites.

Shock Wave truly is a hidden gem. The back-to-back loops pack in the positives and are a guaranteed grey out. The second and third hills provide some of the most insane ejector airtime in the world. And it has lap bars. It can be a little janky as old Schwarzkopf coasters are, but its size and speed make it so that the jankiness is not very noticeable. If I were to be nit-picky, it's a very short ride, but it doesn't get very long lines and is too forgotten about in the coaster world.

The Drops and hills are excellent and give you some of the strongest ejectors I've felt. This ride is fun, intense with strong positive and negative gs, and it is BETTER THAN MIND BENDER. I don't care if Mind bender has good terrain, this ride is a lot better.
